Victim was delivered at 12:33am. Cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the Occipital Lobe, left hemisphere, but her spinal cord was cut, and vertebra crushed just below the base of the skull, both are possible in causing instant death.  Her injuries denote that she was attacked from behind and severely beaten with sharp objects as lacerations on her back indicate. This coincides with the speculation of being trampled by a reindeer.
Victim suffered a severe fractured first rib, causing damage to the brachial plexus, and lacerations of the subclavian vessel causing severe internal hemorrhaging, and fractured second rip puncturing the lung causing pneumothorax. Cuts and marks on back, and hoof marks on forehead indicate that Grandma was trampled by possibly a heard of reindeer.
Seven lacerations on back run along the Y axis and are approximately 2mm deep, suggesting the attacker was moving over Grandma at a rapid pace. The cold limited the loss of blood to 3 liters; however a lot blood was pooled in the victim’s chest, and brain. Hoof marks run along the X axis of her body leading me to believe the animal stopped to trample victim for several moments before moving on. Base of skull is crushed around the occipital lobe into three parts measuring 2 ½’’ on the right, 3’’ on the left and the remainder of the back of the skull is in tact. The frontal lobe has a 3’’ hairline fracture where the hoof landed.

Case Journal: 3/3/2007
Several questions pop into my head as I think about this case and the peculiarity of the circumstances. Why was Grandma leaving the house on Christmas eve? Why was she allowed to drink when she was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, and manic depressive? Why was she unmedicated the night of the incident? Grandpa took the death of his wife very well, as told by the grandson, he was seen the next morning watching football, drinking beer, and playing cards with cousin Mel. Grandpa and Grandma had been married for 50+ years.
Where did the Reindeer come from? The only Caribou farm in Salt Lake county is 20 miles away, and the Caribou is not native to the United States. I’ll have to question the owner of the Caribou farm to see if any of his heard were missing that night, as well as review the crime scene photos to see which direction the hoof tracks were running, how far they ran and from where they came. Cousin Mel and Grandpa are my prime suspects in the case due to the lack of concern over the death of Grandma. Mr. Claus will be interviewed to account for his where abouts the night of the incident and Mr. Claus’s heard of eight Reindeer will be examined by a medical examiner, and veterinarian to see if the hoof print sizes match those found on grandma. Weight, and running stride will also be measured to find out if the impressions will match those on Grandma and in the snow the night of the incident.
A Postmortim update, as well as the investigators thougths on the case. More to come: Interview with Santa and the Reindeer, Hershil Goldstine the Reindeer farm owner, background investigation into Cousin Mel and Grandpa.
